Care for yourself while caring for others
I LOVE OCTOBER! 
There, I’ve said it😊 My jumpers are packed away, the spring cleaning is done, the jacarandas are in full bloom, the days are warming up and the evenings are a perfect time to spend outdoors with family and friends!
 
CELEBRATING NATIONAL WEEKS IN OCTOBER.
October is time to celebrate some amazing people during specific weeks that I am passionate about being held throughout the month to create awareness around children; ADHD and various other learning difficulties or hearing impairments; mental health issues; and finally celebrating state education (which I had the honour of coordinating the promotion of within the Coopers Plains district many years ago), but the one week that encircles all of these valued weeks in October is Carers Week.
 
WE ARE ALL CARERS.
We are all carers, whether it is in a paid role working with those requiring physical assistance or supporting those with mental health issues, learning or other special needs. You might be in a position as an unpaid person looking after the needs of family members and friends.
 
SELF CARE IS NECESSARY.
The most important person you care for is yourself! You are no good to anyone else if you are exhausted and run down. Selfish means - a lack of consideration for others. This word doesn’t describe the type of person who is taking the time to look after themselves so that they can better support others. It is time to be self-full.
 
5 WAYS OF BEING SELF-FULL
  • Value what you do for yourself and others.
  • Be OK with saying NO when you have too much on. You don’t need to justify yourself.
  • Say “yes” to yourself. “Yes, I do have the time to eat well, exercise and relax”.
  • Make time for yourself without feeling guilty and be sure to take it!
  • Learn something new that you can cross off your bucket list.
 
UNPACK YOUR STRESS BY LEARNING NEW SKILLS. 
The Beyond All Limits on-line conference has something for everyone who is caring for or working with for someone with ADHD (information may cross into the area of ASD).
 
Throughout the month of October, you can register in up to 3 independent streams that will bring awareness, ideas and solutions right into your home or workplace.
 
You will also receive access to the information until February 2020! The streams include workshops for Parents and Carers as well as workshops for Teens and Adults; or Educators with a discount when you register for both streams.
 
Applied Techniques Training will be presenting mini-workshops on how to use Emotional Freedom Techniques – Tapping! within each of these areas. To find out how to be part of this fantastic online conference register here.
