FAQ: Will the strategies used from the teachings of 1-2-3 Magic by T.W. Phelan work for children with special needs?
Yes, the strategies are easy to learn and easy to use and understand. The program will work for any child including a child with specials needs who has an understanding of a two year old. There are verbal cues and visual cues available to use with children who have different learning styles.
The feedback received from early childhood educators and community services staff has been overwhelming. The presentation gives an overview of why children sometimes misbehaviour and strategies to provide a good routine and structure within the environment to enable the children to self manage or self regulate their own behaviour with gentle guidance from their care givers whether at home, school or in a group setting.
Appreciation goes to Carinity and the Fassifern Community Centre for allowing ATT to present the ADHD/Asperger's presentation to the local community. The manager stated how nice it was to have someone willing to travel to their centre and take on the arrangements, advertising and supplying of material to promote the presentation to the local community. The attendance was overwhelming. Feedback from teachers and aides from Boonah SHS, SS and Kalbar SS reinforced the impact of the association of the disorders with teams in the world soccer league which provides to educators with a different view. A Disability Services Co-ordinator commented on the understanding she gained while parent's were grateful for the strategies and having someone put into words what their life was really like. I would like to thank the participants for their input as this is what makes the presentations so fulfilling.
